Starting from the unique vantage point of the Windsor-Detroit region, the Bookmobile is a platform for considering the role of the border in the historical development of these two cities, as well as its present and future incarnations. It is also a means to contextualize border situations around the world as the contradictory pressures of globalization become manifest at the geographical margins of the nation state.
We are looking to program Bookmobile events (lectures, readings, seminars, performances) that will animate the contradictions and tensions of border situations, and to build the Collection of dvds, artist’s books, photographs, maps and ephemera about the history of this region and other border regions around the world. Event proposals and submissions are welcomed on an ongoing basis.
Finally in the Stories section of this website, we are also looking for your comments, reflections, anecdotes or pictures relating to interesting border experiences and situations.
